Memento Homo (2020) - Eng/Ita
Ash represents the corruptible condition of man and is a symbol of penance. Throughout the ages, across different cultures and religions, it’s used to evoke death, transience, repentance, but also purification and resurrection. The ashes express, at the same time, the intensity of believers' prayer for forgiveness and the Phoenix Arab’s resilience who rises from it. In these terms Pier Alfeo uses it - stripping it of its timeless dimension to clothe it with an ‘eternal now’ that anchors it to the present - as a cry to be addressed to contemporary society so that it may wake up from its torpor and open its eyes to the harmful effects of anthropization on nature. The time has come for man to stop and listen.

By means of a system composed of a probe and an installation, even infinitely distant places - in real time, by web - send and receive data from surveys carried out on noise pollution and air quality: constant remote monitoring of mutations and/or environmental alterations in the area where the device is located. Technology becomes, therefore, a virtuous instrument in the hands of man to reverse the course of his destiny, to begin an exchange and interaction, this time fruitful, with that same nature that he’s leading to collapse. "CC.beta" intends to focus fully on the analysis and on the continuous assistance of a specific place to protect and to safeguard, and to create a bridge between art and awareness, environment and technology, sound and listening.

La cenere rappresenta la condizione corruttibile dell’uomo ed è un simbolo di penitenza. Attraverso le varie epoche, trasversalmente alle differenti culture e religioni, essa è impiegata per evocare la morte, la caducità, il pentimento, ma anche la purificazione e la resurrezione. La cenere esprime, contestualmente, l’intensità della preghiera dei credenti per ottenere il perdono e la resilienza dell’Araba Fenice che da questa risorge. In tali termini Pier Alfeo la impiega – spogliandola della sua dimensione atemporale per rivestirla di un ‘eterno ora’ che la àncora al presente - come grido da rivolgere alla società contemporanea affinché essa si svegli dal suo torpore e apra gli occhi sugli effetti nocivi dell’antropizzazione sulla natura. È giunto il momento che l’uomo si fermi ad ascoltare.

Mediante un sistema composto da una sonda e da un’installazione, luoghi anche infinitamente distanti - in tempo reale, via web – inviano e ricevono i dati delle rilevazioni effettuate a livello di inquinamento sonoro e della qualità dell’aria: un monitoraggio costante, da remoto, delle mutazioni e/o delle alterazioni ambientali del territorio ove è collocato il dispositivo. La tecnologia diventa, quindi, uno strumento virtuoso nelle mani dell’uomo per invertire la rotta del suo destino, per iniziare uno scambio e un’interazione, questa volta fruttuose, con quella stessa natura che sta portando al collasso. Con "CC.beta" ci si vuole concentrare pienamente sull'analisi e sull'assistenza continuativa di un luogo specifico da proteggere e da salvaguardare, per creare un ponte tra arte e consapevolezza, ambiente e tecnologia, suono e ascolto.
